Our Story

Laura’s Coffee Corner was originally established on the other end of the block and across the street on April 1st, 2010. It was my dream to have a café, and I knew that specific corner of White Rock (one of the historic Five Corners) was nothing short of a gem.

I opened with only three employees, ten seats, and 700 square feet to work with, but still managed all the baking, cooking, and catering! When that location was destroyed by a fire on May 16th, 2016, I was devastated and unsure if I wanted to start again.

Eventually, I decided to press on and rebuild when Terry and Sheila Soo, who owned and operated J & H Grocery here for 47 years, approached me about taking over their space as they wanted to retire. I was nervous about having a now-50-seat café and more employees—unsure I’d be able to handle it—but I just kept reminding myself of how much baking I knew I could do!

I reopened the new location on the seventh anniversary of the original—April 1, 2017! The continued support of my new landlords—Terry and Sheila—has been invaluable during this process. And the community of White Rock has been the cornerstone of our success; their loyalty (and baked-goods-gobbling) has taken what started as a little dream of mine and turned it into a reality—one I’m honoured to share with them!

Come experience the vibrant, warm energy of our new location for yourself, and taste our fresh baked goods while you’re at it! My nickname for Laura’s Coffee Corner is “My Living Room” because when I’m here, I always feel like I’m having coffee with friends.
